SHAMROCK SHAKEOLOGY 101

Two Recipes. Four qualified taste testers. One chef.

The results were astounding.

The real competition? It came from left field, folks.

I bring you The Mc’dee’s Shamrock Shake:

He sizes up to a mean 530 calories,  packs a loaded 73 grams of sugar, and offers 160% of your daily sodium.  Still, his tasty flavor prays on many a humans each St. Patty’s season. Will you be one of them?

I think you’d have to do an awful lot of shaking in order to shake those Mc’dee’s Shamrock calories off your booty! Surely, Taylor Swift would be up to the task.

Despite Mr. Shamrock’s huge intimidation factor and long-lived street reputation, I bring you the stats on his competitors & let me tell you – things aren’t looking good for Mr. Shamrock !

Shake 1: Healthy Shammie

The Healthy Shammie is a low calorie, creamy & sweet alternative to his main competitior. Healthy Shammie is nice to both your waistline and your sweet tooth and ranked 2nd in flavor during the Martino St. Patty’s day taste testing event!

Prep time: 5 minutes                                                                                                                                                   Servings: 4                                                                                                                                                                         Calories/serving: 85 (+whip & cherry)

Ingredients:

  1. 1.5 cups unsweetened coconut milk
  2. 1/2 cup fat free plain Greek yogurt
  3. 1/2 cup fat free vanilla frozen yogurt
  4. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  5. 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  6. 1 drop green food coloring
  7. 1/4 banana
  8. 2 tablespoons sugar (optional)

Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth – pour and top with whipped cream & a cherry!

*To further lighten this recipe, substitute frozen yogurt for additional plain Greek yogurt and skip the added sugar (entirely, or try honey or stevia)!

Shake 2: Amped up Shammie

Amped up Shammie is nutrient packed & made from wholesome, energizing, balanced ingredients. While slightly higher in calories compared to Healthy Shammie, rest assured  this bad boy still contains greater than 50% fewer calories than the original Shamrock Shake, while providing healthy fats and protein. This shake may even be a quality post-workout fuel! Better yet – the Amped up Shammie took the Gold during the Martino St. Patty’s day taste testing event (jaws dropped as they discovered the sneaky nutritious ingredients).

Prep time: 10 minutes                                                                                                                                                 Servings: 2                                                                                                                                                                         Calories/serving: 240

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups unsweetened coconut milk
  2. 1/2 cup fat free vanilla frozen yogurt
  3. 1/2 cup fat free plain Greek yogurt
  4. 1/4 avocado
  5. 2 tablespoons pre-cracked pistachios
  6. 1 cup fresh spinach
  7. 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 2 tablespoons sugar

Grind pistachios in food processor or coffee-bean grinder (that is what I used) until finely ground. Combine with all other ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth – pour and top with whipped cream & a cherry!

**To further lighten this recipe, substitute frozen yogurt for additional plain Greek yogurt and skip the added sugar (entirely, or try honey or stevia)!

After hours of serious recipe testing, the chef reached exhaustion and the taste testers were left with belly’s so full even the leprechaun’s didn’t recognize them as human!

RESULTS ARE IN!

Don’t we always love to cheer for the underdog?

The Healthy Shammie and the Amped up Shammie walked into the sunset hand in hand, true champions, while the McDonald’s Shamrock Shake shook it’s cute lil’ behind all the way home…

Enjoy & Happy St. Patty’s!

P.S. Are you a Healthy Shammie or Amped up Shammie?

Love you, Mean it, Ciao
